CHEN I-Hsuen’s Nowhere in Taiwan shows a moment of transformation taking place along the road. The picture shows a landscape of rice fields, houses with galvanized zinc roofs, and electric posts that was abruptly interrupted by a white wall and an oddly shaped roadside tree in front of it. This suddenly adds elements that conflict against the settings of a rural countryside. CHEN I-Hsuen’s photographs capture scenes along Taiwan’s roads in an attempt to understand the land that he grew up in while documenting the trails and footprints of Taiwanese culture and human characteristics.
