KE Shiue-Shiou’s photographic works were based upon small, mundane details observed in everyday life that were integrated with realist and imaginative processing to create breathtaking elements of fantasy, leading viewers to unearth surprises buried underneath the seemingly ordinary world. Squid is one of the works in the Alien World series. The original photograph taken was that of a tree bark. Post-processing was then used to transform the image into a squid-like creature. The once rigid bark was converted into the soft tissues while floating air roots became the tentacles. The reddish gaze hidden in the darkness heightens the mysterious atmosphere of the composition.
