DING Chien-Chung disrupts scenes that viewers tend to take for granted by adding moving mechanical devices and creating visual illusions of flowing lights. Église Vide 02 is a continuation of the Empty House series. Light sculptures placed within an abandoned church were used to inspire temporal memories between people and religion in the vast history of the human race. The photographic technique employed uses rapid rotation of mechanical devices to sculpt an overlapping path and generate what appears to be a solid beam of light. The sight of a suspended ring of light in an empty and dark church easily connects with the historical memories of the church, and appears like a portal linked to another world.
