HSIEH Yu’s works reflect upon the sacrifices and price to be paid for the modern lifestyle that aims only to achieve convenience. Regulations is an illustration of a nocturnal cityscape, with bright neon lights shining in the dark and dense traffic that symbolize the bustling modernity of urban development. The white, abstract lines that occupy the entire picture seem to be erasing the cityscape, forming a visual focus and an analogy for the mechanization of city life and the intangible controls put in place to enforce order and control.
