The Starry Night (I)

CHEN Che-Wei employs a wide selection of creative media in order to search for spiritual support in his life. The Starry Night (I) shows an abandoned shop. The windowpanes were covered with white paint to prevent peeping or vandalism. The paint, however, created a unique, chaotic, and mysterious texture that reminds people of van Gogh’s famous De sterrennacht. To CHEN Che-Wei, the random painting reminded him of the depressing and tragic nature of van Gogh when he cut off his left ear and was forcibly admitted to a mental asylum to undergo treatment.
