CHEN Pei-Yu’s Reasons for Covering presents images that describe a historical experience. A pair of shoes for a young girl and a school uniform set, sprayed with white colors, were placed against a cold background, creating visuals that resemble historical memories that had been buried too long such that the colors had been silenced and bleached. Color was only preserved for a few markers in order to provide a thread of evidence that can be used to identify these objects. The cold and unfeeling approach adopted by CHEN Pei-Yu in the creative process represents an attempt to use strong symbols and objects to recover lost memories and a silent accusation against history.
