LI Ying-Yi’s Kiss of Giraffe and Horse uses free, unrestrained, and spontaneous lines as well as imaginative colors to create a work where imagination ran wild. Graffiti-like lines dance across the canvas, forming an unrestrained series of images. The tree on the left side shows a monkey hanging upside down from the branches. Changing the perspective, however, transforms the tree into a beautiful dragon that different animals are riding on as they wave their hands and cheer. The artist employed the creative technique of canvas rotation and randomly created various imaginative forms, allowing viewers to assemble a rich combination by looking at the work from different angles. Unfettered romantic and childhood imaginations saturate LI Ying-Yi’s works that often represent an uncontrolled dream space with infinite possibilities and imaginations.
