HUANG Min-Chun’s works often feature waterlily ponds and flowers, using different composition and media to create various types of novel styles. In Progress 1 is based on waterlily flowers, using heavy reds and greens as well as lines created by an artist knife to harmonize traditional ink painting with modern humanism. The work portrays a wilting and dying waterlily pool where rotting stems and leaves decay in a tangled mass. The artist also used his hair to add fine, delicate elements to the intertwining mess. The act of adhering hair severed from follicles to this work also symbolized reincarnation. This ongoing work represents an attempt by the artist to contemplate life.
