TSENG Yung-Hung is skilled in using the human form as the main theme of his ceramic clay artworks that illustrate the warmth of human relations and everyday life. Male and Female depicts a male and female couple, both wearing aprons and a scarf around their necks. The male figure also wears a green object atop of his head that appears like a hat but can be interpreted as a leafy vegetable as well. Unique physical proportions of the figures with their narrow heads, wide shoulders, and large bodies form a strong and comical contrast. To create this work, TSENG Yung-Hung first used ceramic clay to shape the human forms which are then coated with enamel, paint, and gloss before finally given a matte finish to generate a rich and exquisite visual effect. This light-hearted and comical work was used by the artist to illustrate the interaction between men and women.
