LI Cheng-Jie is skilled in oil painting, generating many realistic artworks that contain metaphors and symbolic images. His works often convey the element of serenity of Laozi and Zhuangzi’s philosophical aesthetics. The creation process de-emphasizes the main subject in order to clear the mind to better search for the deepest and purest emotional desires of our hearts, the meaning of life, art, and the natural world, and to experience the most primal truth behind artistic elements. Flowers in full bloom are contrasted against a withered plant, with the entire composition portrayed using gentle colors and simple arrangements, where a soft white overcoat covers the entire painting to generate a hazy and a distant atmosphere.
