HUNG Tien-Hsien’s works are powerful artistic fables. They Said: the Outside Is Very Dangerous depicts a horizon barred by a wall where the battlements are shaped in the form of two men strangling each other. The backs of these figures are loaded with factory buildings, towers, and other forms of construction, while two tanks are positioned upon their arms with cannons pointing at each other, creating a composition saturated with obvious tension and disharmony. An open door in the wall allowed sunlight to flow through, while a small figure standing a good distance from the wall ponders where or not to take a step. This work serves as a metaphor for the current social and political status of Taiwan and the dangerous situation the country is in.
