TAO Yu-Chieh is skilled in block printing. Her works have mainly inherited the style traditional Chinese woodblock prints while incorporating modern digital art concepts and techniques, with themes that include both traditional Chinese elements and western popular culture as she creates innovative possibilities for Oriental prints. Memory of Our Time #1B shows an old construction within an old street illuminated by moonlight. The scene is decorated with a tortoiseshell cat chasing after a butterfly and a life-like poster of Bruce Li. Under the guidance of the moonlight, primal forces within the artwork seem stir and come to life. TAO Yu-Chieh has a nostalgic attachment to woodblock printing and hopes to use this artistic approach to commemorate Taiwan’s fading memories and help viewers reflect upon the importance of these old buildings and disappearing sights.
