HSU Pi-Ling is skilled in ink painting and eastern gouache canvas artworks. Weave, however, is about weaving, with a circular panel covered in a meshwork of paper strips of different shades of blue. The crisscrossing paper strips create a dreamy tone and richly variegated spatial and textural possibilities. The routine daily activity of weaving has been used as an artistic technique. Natural physical rhythms and intuition were also used to create an exclusive dimensional sensation that unique not found in artworks created by brushstrokes. The interspersed portions of order and chaos do not require verbose descriptions. Viewers can simply gaze at the work and appreciate the spirit of nothingness expressed.
