Weight of First Step is an oil painting created by SU I-Han that illustrates a mountain landscape that she sees when she wakes up in the morning. In the composition, a majestic mountain range lies serenely across the land with a sparse forest of trees of different heights before the view. Contrasted against this natural scenery is a transparent glass of clear water placed close to the viewer, carrying a reflection of the natural scenery within the water, and readily responding to the serene moment before daybreak. SU I-Han regards every morning as a medium that carries the memories from yesterday and at the same time acts as the start of a brand new day. SU I-Han hopes that this work will help her remember the sensation of witnessing the sun emerging from the sun after an extended period of darkness, strengthening her will, strength, and hope to begin her day anew.
