The artist JIAN Miao-Sin has created The Park 1. In this work, the foreground is a dense mountain forest manifested mainly in deep black tones to generate a serene and ancient atmosphere. A pavilion rests in the center of the composition, outlined in pale ivory that contrasts strongly against the somber and moody background. Haphazard branches surrounding the scene add to the sense of instability. Sunshine pours in from the back of the pavilion, giving off a backlighting effect that adds to the artwork’s spatial depth. JIAN Miao-Sin cleverly guides the viewer’s sight to the far distance to generate room for imagination and fantasies. The pavilion, nestled within a deep and yawning darkness, symbolizes the artist’s spiritual outlet, while the far and distant light source heightens the coldness and sobriety of the composition. JIAN Miao-Sin has introduced a modern and artificial construction within natural scenery just as she had incorporated western realism with abstract Chinese art styles, expressing the metamorphic nature of her personal spiritual world.
