CHENG Mu-Ni uses comic book images and incorporates common symbols in the comic media to investigate the nature of multiple narratives. In The Leaving Spaceship, a chaotic and mottled yellow was used to create a seemingly borderless space. A number of unidentified abstract and geometric symbols have been placed in the composition, wandering about in the canvas. A small figure stands in the middle of the painting with a speech bubble floating before it. The speech bubble, with its texts replaced by dots, serves as the only means of communication within this artistic space. CHENG Mu-Ni has utilized abstract symbolisms in an effort to explore the multiple perspectives and whimsical nature and relationships between images, language, and narration.
