CHANG Chen-Kuei is skilled in the use of watercolor to capture the various forms of clouds. In Transient and Moving, CHANG Chen-Kuei illustrates a moment in Guandu, Taipei, before the coming of a storm. In the picture, two untended boats drift along the shore. The upper portion depicts sunlight and blue skies starkly contrasted against the dark clouds trying to smother it. CHANG Chen-Kuei made use of blooming effects to portray heavy rains and gave additional details of splattering rain on the water so that the viewer can feel as though they are caught within this rainstorm. CHANG Chen-Kuei’s mastery in watercolor makes it possible to create diverse presentations of water, wind, and clouds in different forms, allowing viewers to safely adopt a calm and meditative spirit in this rustic land.
