CHEN Yen-Chou believes that artwork, despite depicting a two-dimensional world that is drastically different compared to the actual environment, is able to help viewers achieve their own unique interpretations through their memories and experience. In The Flowing of Wisdom, CHEN Yen-Chou used indoor still life as the subject to illustrate the objects’ appearance under dim indoor lighting. We can see various porcelain vases, plates, fruits, portraits, novels, and other items arranged in an orderly manner along a wooden cabinet covered by a piece of lacy fabric. The wooden cabinet is half-opened, releasing a trail of cloudy mist that seems to creep along the bottom of the canvas and gradually spreading upwards throughout the entire space. The reflection of the light and smoke creates a gentle yet rhythmic composition. Every object, smoke trails, and shadow contains a different story waiting for the viewer to explore and dissect.
