TSAO Chun visual works focus on the connection between “loss” and “memory.” TSAO Chun uses photography to resurrect scenes that are about to disappear from history and become part of our memories. Swimming Pool is a photograph of a once functional swimming pool that now lies abandoned and forgotten. By wearing his swimming gear, standing in the waterless pool, and simulating the act of swimming, TSAO Chun attempted to imagine what people did in this swimming pool when it was still opened to the public. In this photograph, however, the very same act stands in contrast with his actual surroundings, making this once usual behavior in the settings seem all the more out of place and time. TSAO Chun believes that “loss” and “memory” are interconnected elements, and hopes to investigate the relationship and roles between people, objects, and environments to grant new life to things about to disappear from our history.
