Black, sticky substances exude from YANG Hung-Yu’s After Memory. This material seemed to be man-made bacteria undergoing constant self-replication, spreading and consuming all organic life form until it completely devours the very world that we depend upon for survival. To YANG Hung-Yu, the black bubble hints at the shadow and immaterial mental stress lurking in everyone’s hearts. YANG Hung-Yu believes that these shadows are parasites dwelling within us, driven by the singular goal of consumption. Urbanization and material prosperity fueled its growth and allowing it to engorge itself upon our once innocent humanity. YANG Hung-Yu wishes to use this work to express the helplessness of modern individuals and how they inevitably succumb to this immense pressure. Circular, flowing lines lighten the composition, creating a mysterious artistic language adding to the work’s presentation and emotional impact.
