LIU Sen-Yung is a photographer. In Statue of Reality, LIU Sen-Yung takes mundane sculptures of animals, soldiers, and Jesus taken from parks, and then uses photo-editing to create surrealist images. In this set of 6 photographs, LIU Sen-Yung has portrayed the sculptures on their own, in rows, or in groups. Sculptures are rearranged and complemented with puffs of clouds, allowing them to dance, fly, or run through across the billowy skies. This combination of actual and virtual images have imbued these once static sculptures with souls, offering a visual wonder that makes viewers feel as though they’ve been transported to a different world and transforming their perceptions of time and space.
