CHEN Ping-Han’s light-hearted works depict her personal feelings and concerns for modern mankind and their relationships with natural ecologies. In No One Is Free-Water Box, not a single person was portrayed, but the scene clearly depicts signs of artificial control. Six boxes on stilts have been deliberately included in this picture, representing the glass-lined classy penthouses in landscape areas. These residences may be places from which people can admire the beauty of natural landscapes, but reality depicts them as the narrow cages they are, exposing our contradictory nature of subjecting ourselves to the restrictions of nature. CHEN Ping-Han’s work is a bright mosaic of colors that sings a sweet praise to nature under control, while at same time issues a gentle censure of our human desires.
