作品賞析
WANG Huo-Pen, a skilled oil painter, majored in western art and was once the artistic director of China Times. In LIFE, Wang established a black border around shades of red to generate a three-dimensional and richly layered effect. Despite the abstract nature of the work, the chains and leaves were realistically and meticulously portrayed. The verdantly green leaves seem to sway freely in the breeze, forming a stark contrast with the heavy, rusted chains. The careful balance of intertwining abstract and realist elements as well as the red and green hues provides a vivid contradiction that is at the same time disciplined and constrained. To WANG Huo-Pen, the chains symbolize life’s bleak hardships and struggle while the red hues stand for the dangers posed by the surroundings. Only those an iron-will to survive may endure and blossom into life, like the tender leaves shown in the painting.
