Artist CHEN Cheng-Hsiung grows up in a small fishing village in Tainan. It has been more than 50 years since he began his apprentice career of artistic creation. He is good at agile and mature sculpture skills for presenting the gestures and expressions of human figures. His works are full of nostalgic emotions. His work Pleasure is inspired by his most familiar material—fisherman. The fisherman takes a basket in one hand and grasps the fishing net in the other hand. His expression of easygoing smile and the stable standing gesture reveal the satisfactory mood of the fisherman after harvesting from the sea. CHEN Cheng-Hsiung’s works preserve the carving strokes of gravers. With the changes of light and darkness, the work gently expresses the unswerving and unyielding spirits of a fisherman fighting against the sea for years. The artist is inspired by life. He refines the mental feelings of ordinary characters into profound cultivation of life, expressing the simplicity and sincerity of Taiwanese people.
