Artist CHEN Rong-Chang is good at expressing the consistent growing and changing process of the internal ego with the imaginative and transformative appearance of plants. In his work Looks Like Firecracker, the gorgeous red trunk occupies the main position of the canvas. The orange and white branches and vines not only surround the trunk but stretch outward in threatening gestures like flame. Interestingly, the prosperous trunk is obscurely seen in the seemingly hollow background. The tranquility and elegance of the obscure trunk forms a strong contrast with the restless and furious red trunk. It responds to the title of the work Looks Like Firecracker. Audiences cannot help but consider whether the strange and eye-catching red trunk is the firecracker caused by the encounter of two trees with totally different characters, or the brightly red fire of life given birth by the prosperous trunk.
