Artist WU Yen-I studied classic painting in France for years. Her painting skill focuses on cautious composition and emphasizes the gradation of light and shadow. In her work Four Seasons, the artist presents her image of the foreign life with the static objects in the room. There is an intercom and a blue magpie on the wall. The remaining light of the sunset outside the window shines obliquely into the room. Light and shadow scramble across the wall and spray on the chair and television. After several times of migration, the artist combines the arrangements of the room in the same space, takes blue as the main hue of the image, and creates the emotionless and alienated atmosphere. It symbolizes the haunting nostalgia in the light and shadow of four seasons. WU Yen-I’s works contain certain poetic cultivation which condenses time, light, and shadow in the image and presenting a dialogue between the mind and the space for audiences to stop for appreciation.
