n his series Spots Inside an Incident, artist CHIEN Hao-Chiang uses black-ang-white photography to build a gloomy atmosphere in his images. The spots represent the dark corners of our misadventures. His subjects—animals, landscapes, and people whose faces are hidden—convey the solitude and discomfort of our deepest inner places. The black spots in this work obstruct the observer’s view of the image, while also reflecting the restless roots of our inner being.
