Artist HUANG Chun-Che takes the absurd structures of modern society as subject matter, and presents his observations of dealing with the greater environment through modern painting techniques. In his painting Three Dogs: A Picture, there are three dogs in suits, standing in human-like postures. The dog on the left has no eyes, the one in the middle is wearing headphones, and the one on the right is wearing a surgical mask, echoing the saying “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.” In this painting, these dogs adopt a “relax and carry on” attitude when faced with an unreasonable social framework, unfazed by external things. Looking closely, you’ll see that Huang carefully arranges the colors and postures to show vivid contrasts and lines, showing another intriguing relationship. Huang believes that even when faces with an uneasy environment, if we raise our spiritual boundaries to a sufficient level of tranquility and peace, then our souls will be soothed.
