LIAO Yi-chia began his interest in photography as a youth and after being trained in traditional black & white and color photography, he finally chose to join the creative ranks of digital photographers. In Cultural Imprints – 6 the artist uses a 100-year-old stone wall as a background and after some darkroom digital postproduction, he prints the scene of West Lake and Yueliang Bay on a wall covered with water stains and cracks to compose a beautiful Jiangnan water view of an historical cultural city, creating a Chinese-style, Literati impressionist landscape. Liao feels that as we face the coming of the digital age and find ourselves in a new photographic environment, we should create a visual sense different from that of the past. Through his art, LIAO retrieves beauty from the ordinary, challenges us with new techniques and presentation, showing us imaginative creative ideas and new meanings.
