LIEN Jui-Fen has been to France to study painting, and upon returning to Taiwan, she has been engaged in experimenting and innovating ink paintings using self-developed perspectives. This work, “Landscape Mutation”, uses materials including ink and linen to present an Oriental style of ink painting. Using black, grey, and white, Lien piles the layers of the hills and mountains, expressing spatial depth; Lien uses the wash technique and layering technique to illustrate the effect of waves hitting the river banks and the turns of the river from left to right, presenting a concept of cycle of life. Lien uses traditional media, but is able to reinvent traditions to create innovative vocabulary of ink painting.
