作品賞析
This painting by JHOU Jhih-Ying is titled shu. Jhou chose the name “shu” because it’s an onomatopoeic word, signifying an expression of momentary perception. With soft pinks, she paints an emaciated human figure in a kneeled position in the corner, head tilted slightly upward and body vanishing at the edges. The inspiration for this piece is T. S. Eliot’s poem The Hollow Men. Using the poem’s description of the emptiness of the human spirit, she builds a weightless, vanishing atmosphere with a few closely hued colors. Jhou believes that the human spirit is intimately attached to the human body. But the body is not eternal, so she explores the question of human existence though the incomplete and gradually fading figure in her painting.
