Artist TU Pei-Shih uses animation as a means to express both fantasies and threats, and how these connect with modern society. In Uneasy Journey, the harmonious, fantasy-like atmosphere of the opening is disrupted by a downpour of electronic waste. As the plot unfolds, we see the figures of workers sorting through the mountain of refuse, salvaging metals from amongst the garbage to sell. In this short film, Tu describes the predicament of the residents of Guiyu, in the Chinese prefecture of Shantou, pondering the effect of globalization and Western capitalist powers on outlying regions.
