Artist WEN Meng-Yu keeps records of her life in her paintings. She breaks up everyday objects, removes signs of human existence, and reassembles the objects into a collage, showing an unreal scene of new existence. The inspiration for Silver Factory comes from the work of Andy Warhol, the father of Pop Art. In this piece, she incorporates a photograph of a silver factory that she took while in New York into a picture of his own studio, infusing elements of her private memories into it. In this painting, with all the details all flattened and transmogrified into sharp lines and deep, bright colors that emphasize the existence of the scene itself. The furniture in the painting represents the artist’s relationship with certain people, stating her inner emotions in a metaphorical way. The artist reconstitutes her personal experiences into a form that she can share with the viewer, providing a simple narration that leads the viewer to experience the rich emotions in the image.
