Artist TSAI Chin-Ying transforms materials found in everyday life into works that brim with poetic quality. In Metamorphosis, the artist applies ink and water freely to the canvas and then casually sprinkles coffee grounds on it. This blending of ink and coffee grounds gives the image the appearance of a spattered wall, placing the viewer into a turbid environment. There are several blank spaces in the scene which, as suggested by the title, hint at a bright future blossoming forth following the long, slow night that must be endured before bursting out from a cocoon.
