KENG Hao-Kang’s painting Twin Vests – two was inspired by a winter vest he had as a student in Italy. As such, it’s meaningful as a sentimental memento. In this painting he decomposes the patterns and colors of the vest into geometric shapes, and reconstitutes them on the canvas by layering vivid blocks of color to form a picture with intense color contrasts and ample rhythm. Keng simplifies and conceptualizes elements of design found in modern life, building a harmonious yet contradictory relationship. He leads the viewer to freely roam and imagine within an abstract painting chock-full of intriguing patterns.
