作品賞析
This series developed by HONG Dong-Lu in the 1990s draws from iconic figures in Japanese anime and American popular culture, such as Barbie dolls and Chun-Li. Using computer image processing technology, he creates new virtual idols who reflect the pop culture identity of a new era while also presenting the popular stories and emotional memories of the younger generation. Sailormoon was a popular anime series from the 1990s. Hong places this well-known Japanese idol in a landscape of classical European ruins and gives her a classic pose, thus creating an image reminiscent of popular consumer products that mix Japanese and European elements. At first glance, this sweet, lovable toy image draws our attention, yet the Western classical setting confounds and perplexes the viewer. In this age of lightning-fast dissemination of information across the globe, this piece daringly lampoons both consumer culture and European visual culture, and forms an ironic metaphor of problems faced locally as a result of globalization.
