Sculptor HSIANG Kuang-Hua is a master at pairing simple geometric forms with flowing lines, giving his work an animated yet orderly sense of rhythm. In Rhythmic Windows, Hsiang fashions nine cubic blocks with curved, contoured stone surfaces, all made out of a single mass. In the upper section of the sculpture he has chiseled out a rectangular hole. This gap, surrounded by writhing stone, gives the piece a simultaneous sense of penetration, transparency and undulation. The motion-in-stillness and stillness-in-motion conveyed in this piece is like an organic entity waiting to be released, revealing an exuberant life force.
