This untitled piece by HUANG Dong-Sheng is a simple pencil sketch on canvas, in which he creates an abstract landscape of loops and lines. The intertwining lines and constant back-and-forth layering creates an image resembling a mass of string. These alternately spaced, differently shaded lines express the artist’s conscious state when making the painting. It’s an abstract piece displaying traces of the artist’s train of thought. Contemplating this mass of string, the viewer’s frame of mind seems to wander between reality and the abstract, quietly vacillating between lines whose starting and ending points can’t be discerned.
