Photographer LIN Jui-Yang has created a series of photographs of livestock markets throughout Taiwan. Taiwan’s livestock markets are where hog farmers auction off their livestock to buyers. At each auction, the buyers sit in the theater-like showroom waiting to inspect the hogs. After bidding, the hogs go on to be slaughtered. The hogs are paraded through a U-shaped corral, urged on with electric prods toward their fate in the abattoir. In Meat Market Series II, Lin hints at the barbarity of our civilized world by photographing livestock markets.
