Artist LEE Chin-Hsien is intensely interested in Taiwan’s railway culture, narrating the changing face of Taiwan’s railways through his paintings. In The Tainan Chronicles, Tainan Station, the focus of the scene, is encircled by images of important historic buildings in the city of Tainan, highlighting the station’s central position in the development of the city. In the upper part of the painting is an old map of Taiwan, and there are two old photos on the sides describing the railway’s past life. Through pictures and words, Lee’s painting takes the viewer through a tunnel in time, seeking the paths people walked in bygone days and imparting an impression of meaning and modern aesthetics.
