The work of LEE Lon-Wei stresses colors and the shapes of dots, lines and planes. His early work was influenced by past masters of both Eastern and Western aesthetics; later, he began to think about the temporal and spatial meanings of these spaces, exploring the new language of painting forms in the modern world. In Insipid Musical Form, Lee makes use of differences in shape to manufacture a macroscopic sense of space throughout the painting. Blues make up the primary background hues, while reds, whites and blacks are used in the foreground lines and squares which are spread relatively evenly on the canvas, giving the painting a musical rhythm and pulse. Lee conveys musical melodies in his work, with the repeated shapes resembling the flow of music, expressing the simple, fine rhythms of life.
