In Enigma, KE Yi-Jyun constructs a composition with distinct layers using tool marks that vary in thickness. The image of a head in the lower part of the picture is adorned with various chaotic images. Looking up from the head, we see a bizarre landscape made of lines, vegetation, traffic signals and letters, giving the viewer unlimited room for imagination. This piece is inspired by the artist’s childhood experience of being lost. The blue lighthouse in the center of the image is the destination, yet as we seek it, our emotional confusion and anxiety twists the mental map into a bewildering maze, awakening memories lurking in our innermost recesses.
