YU Sheng-Ruei applies realistic oil painting as primary approach of creation. The themes of his creations prior to 2011 describe the cosplayers and the distance between realism and reality in his paintings. “Lying Through a Vacuum” is an creation made from this period, whereas the transparent refraction technique is applied to handle the reflection of people in reality. Just like the lies in reality, the faces of the figures become obscure under the weak vacuum inside the light bulb and the complex refraction of glass layers. The artist has drawn the extraction of the spirit by using the visual entertainment resulted from physical principles that reproduces a subtle boundary between reality and virtual world.
