Artwork Appreciation
LIN Hou-Cheng’s photographic work, Reversed Scenery, captures the different paces of the long-abandoned cinema scenes through lenses. The consistent shooting angles capture the stage and the auditorium filled with seats, showing the views of different theaters. Used to be filled with sound and light effects and noisy people, the entertainment place now has seriously damaged curtains and broken ceiling. The seats are also in ruins, completely demolished and wrecked. The light that slowly leaks into the room from the outside brightens the dark corners of several spaces. For things that are in the past, there is no chance for renewal and can only be stored in memory. Reversed Scenery refers to a lost scenery, and LIN Hou-Cheng uses a series of ruined landscapes to lead the viewers to shuttle between memories and return to the past years.
